The Penshurst Choral Society (PCS) was formed in 1963 by the Rector and Doctor of the village who considered that regular singing might help to empty the Doctor’s surgery and encourage members to sing in church! Whilst we have moved from Penshurst for rehearsal we still believe that singing is good for you! PCS now has about 65 members from all around the Tunbridge Wells area. PCS is a not for profit organisation.
Conductor: Anthony Osborne
Pianist: Glynis Dickinson
Concerts: PCS are going to sing three concerts in 2026/7 : Christmas, March and mid- June. Our Christmas and Spring concerts will be held from 6.30 with a short interval. The choir have also been invited to be part of a musical celebration at St John the Baptist Church, Penshurst in October.
PCS performs a wide range of music, including items from the standard choral repertoire and opera with occasionally more modern and demanding works. Our conductor and pianist are professional musicians and we engage additional professional musicians for our concerts.
Rehearsals: Rehearsals take place weekly from early September until mid June with a break for Christmas and Easter. We rehearse at Jubilee Theatre, Holmewood House School on Tuesday evening starting at 8 pm until 9.50 pm with a short break in the middle. From September 2026 we will rehearse at St John’s Church of England Primary School, Cunningham Road, Tunbridge Wells, TN4 9EW.
Fees: We charge an annual fee of £160 per annum (or £60 per term), which we pro-rata if members join part way through the year. The fees help underwrite the cost of our concerts.
